Monsoon Snacks – 11 | Davangere Mirchi Bajji

Davangere Mirchi Bajji is one of the most famous tea time snacks. And during monsoon, this is one of the most eaten snacks to keep you warm with a cup of Tea.

 

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. gram flour or besan – 1.5 cup
  2.  rice flour – 1/4 cup
  3. Bajji chilies – 8 – 10
  4. red chilli powder – 1/2 – 1 tsp
  5.  crushed cumin seeds or cumin powder – 2 tsp
  6.  Asafoetida-1/4 tsp
  7. A pinch of baking soda
  8. oma or carom seeds or ajwain seeds – 1/4 tsp
  9. Oil for deep frying
  10. Salt as per your taste.

Ingredients for stuffing:

  1. Chopp 1 onion finely (You can also add grated carrot and sprouts)
  2. Chopp coriander leaves
  3. Green chilli finely chopped – 1 or 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  4. 1/4 tsp chat masala (optional)
  5. Salt as per your taste.

Procedure:

  1. Clean the chillies and slit chillies lengthwise and deseed them.

2. In a bowl take 2 tsp of powdered cumin seeds and add a tsp of salt and mix well.

3. Now stuff these ingredients into the chillies evenly.

4. In a bowl take gram flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, salt, baking soda, carom seeds and asafoetida and add water little water to make it a thick batter.

5. Now dip the stuffed chillies into the batter and deep fry in low flame till its golden brown.

6. Herez the twist; again slit the fried chillies lengthwise and stuff it with chopped onion, coriander leaves, green chilli and chat masala.

And this must be tasted along with a cup of tea only then you will enjoy the real taste of Davangere Mirchi Bajji
